Any thoughts on the Sigma FF foveon?

Ever since having seen photos taken with the Sigma DP Merrill cameras, I have been intrigued by the foveon sensor based cameras. The color rendering, tonality and level of detail is incredible at lower ISO levels. So when I read that Sigma plans to produce a camera with FF Foveon sensor, I was very interested. Does anyone know something about Sigma's plans and the design of this camera? Or is it too early to tell.

I'm across three systems, but my heart is with Foveon. Sigma has certainly avoided letting much out of the bag at this point in interviews, etc.

My biggest hope though is if the FF sensor is based on a Quattro design, the Merrill Mob doesn't turn this new forum into one that looks like DPR. Conversations have been stifled there for so long.

I bet that the new sensor has no more than 44MP array (maybe an a 24MP) and the improvements from a 7 year development would give us at least 1 or two stop improvement in the sensitivity. Remember that they've got a lot of trouble in the signal processing (slow processor, not so good coding and a work in progress with the signal processing tweaking) which explains the high noise. There's plenty of points for improvements but we have to remember the limited resources that Sigma has...

I wonder if the alliance will also be helpful to Sigma in that respect. We'll see what the future brings.

Here, Here. I shall be the first to leave if the blinkered fan boys take over the site and in any thread.

I hope so, though the recent interview with CEO Kazuto Yamaki may indicate there's not a lot of communication between the alliance partners at this point. "We do not exchange information [between Sigma, Panasonic and Leica] about our roadmap for products for the new system. It’s a matter of compliance [with antitrust legislation]. We simply cannot do that."
